Over 23,000 EU readmission requests

Since 2003, EU members have sent Serbia 23,887 requests for readmission of citizens living illegally in those countries. In a statement today, Interior Ministry officials added that they did not know what the final total would come to. Over 23,000 EU readmission requests The figures were announced during a session of the parliamentary committee for defense and security affairs, where parliament was advised to ratify the EU readmission agreement on readmission, as well as an agreement signed by the Serbia-Montenegro Council of Ministers and the French government on the repatriation of persons in irregular situations. Repatriation should be carried out in an organized, reciprocal and planned manner. Ministry Secretary Milorad Todorovic said that both agreements were important as they lay the basis for cooperation with the EU. Bilateral agreements have already been signed with neighboring countries, and it has been recommended that readmission be regulated on a bilateral basis with Denmark, Norway and Switzerland, who are not EU members but have signed the Schengen Agreement.
