Vojislav Kostunica Tuesday lashed out at the U.S. for its "insistence on recognizing Kosovo's independence after Dec. 10." Such policy is "aimed at preventing Kosovo Albanians from accepting a compromise solution," the prime minister said. "U.S. pursues brutal policy of force" "The statements we hear every day as coming from U.S. officials that after December 10, they will recognize Kosovo's unilateral independence on the basis of the Ahtisaari plan, have the aim of preventing, at whatever cost, Kosovo Albanians from accepting a compromise solution for the province," the prime minister said in a statement carried by agencies. Kostunica assessed that "the United States are pursuing a brutal policy of force and are openly advocating for a disintegration of Serbia." "Unfortunately, all this is proof that the United States and NATO brutally and illegally bombed Serbia and brought their military forces to the province with the sole aim to snatch away 15 percent of our country," Kostunica underlined in the statement. He pointed out that the "people of Serbia have to know that the basic reason for such U.S. violence against Serbia lies in Annex 11 of the Ahtisaari plan, which explicitly says that NATO is the final body of authority in Kosovo." "Serbia will not allow or acknowledge the setting up of such an illegal creation on its territory. Every day and in every corner of the world will we keep insisting on that that Kosovo and Metohija cannot be NATO's war trophy and that as long as the UN Charter exists, the internationally recognized borders of Serbia will remain unchanged," Kostunica concluded. Meantime, his close party ally and cabinet member, Slobodan Samardzic (DSS), has denied AP quotes about a conference on Kosovo future status. The minister for Kosovo rejected reports that he told The Associated Press a final international conference on the future status of Kosovo will be organized in late November, adding that the report is "arbitrary and incorrect." The ministry said in a statement issued today that Samardzic has not made any "exclusive statements" with the agency "over a long period of time," particularly not on a possible "final conference" on the future status of Kosovo. During the Brussels promotion of the "Kosovo Compromise" project of the 4S Institute, Samardzic said before dozens of diplomats, analysts and journalists that three negotiation meetings were planned for November and that "the last meeting in November might last from two to three days in order to summarize our proposals and show which the common grounds are."
