The Albanian foreign minister called on the EU to “brace for the breakdown of talks over Kosovo.” Lulzim Bashawas in Paris Friday where he met with his counterpart Bernard Kouchner and President Nicolas Sarkozy's diplomatic adviser Jean-David Levitte. Albania tells EU to prepare for Kosovo talks failure "Albania fully supports the attempts to find a negotiated solution between Pristina and Belgrade ... but it is looking increasingly difficult for this to be the case," Basha told the press. "With that in mind, the European Union has to start preparing now for the worst case scenario," he said. If the negotiations fail, "the next step has to be taken by the EU and NATO and that is implementation of the Ahtisaari plan," he said. "The plan offers the Kosovo Serb minority the widest guarantees and safeguards possible compared to any minority in Europe," he said.
