New German Ambassador to Serbia Wolfram Maas officially assumed his duties in Belgrade Friday. He handed his letter of accreditation to President Boris Tadic. New German ambassador in Belgrade The German ambassador voiced the hope that ongoing negotiations on the future status of Kosovo under the guidance of the Troika representatives from the European Union, the U.S. and Russia, would lead to a sustainable compromise, acceptable to all sides involved. He pointed out that Germany attached great importance to its bilateral ties with Serbia and the country's further progress towards the European Union and NATO. Recalling that he was assuming his duties at a time when Serbia was soon expected to sign the Stabilization and Association Agreement, the new German ambassador pointed out that Belgrade had very speedily and competently brought the negotiations on the SAA to a close, and added that his country would back Serbia and help its efforts in that direction. Maas will replace ambassador Andreas Zobel, who left Belgrade just before the end of his mandate.
