The self-styled Tzar Lazar Guard will demand the declaration of a state of war if Kosovo independence is proclaimed. A day after the work of this organization was banned in Kosovo, the Guard will hand state officials in parliament today a petition calling on Belgrade to declare a state of war if Pristina unilaterally proclaims Kosovo independence. Tzar Lazar Guard wants war declaration Guard representatives stated that they would head to Kosovska Mitrovica on October 14 and demand NATO, KFOR, UNMIK and the KPS to leave Kosovo, adding that they would declare war if they did not do so. UNMIK has already deemed the Guard an illegal organization, and has prohibited all its activities, and even its presence, in Kosovo. No Guard wanted to speak to B92 regarding the number of people that had signed the petition or the details of the scheduled protest, it was only said that “their commander Hadzi Andrej Milic would make a statement at a meeting at 11 a.m. once the petition had been submitted to parliament.” President of the Serbian National Council in northern Kosovska Mitrovica, Nebojsa Jovic, told B92 that the arrival of this organization in Kosovo would only be counterproductive and damaging for Kosovo Serbs. “If we now have the story that is getting ignored relating to the masked group of Albanians, members of the Albanian National Army, a terrorist organization, whom the entire international community is turning a blind eye to, I think the arrival of the so-called Tzar Lazar Guard would help them out because everyone would start talking about this paramilitary formation, and no one would say that they came from Serbia, but from northern Kosovo,” Jovic said. He said that the appearance of such a group would not help Serbia’s diplomatic position. “I think that such a move would damage our political activities, and I think it would definitely aggravate the security situation here,” Jovic said. The Kosovo Police Service and UNMIK searched several stores in Lole Ribara Street in Kosovska Mitrovica, searching for emblems and flags of the Tzar Lazar Guard, though none were found. The search was ordered by the Kosovska Mitrovica Municipal Court on an order from the special United Nations representative.
