The leaders of the World Jewish Congress have sent a protest letter to top Serbian officials Thursday. The organization sent a strong protest to Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica and President Boris Tadic over the decision to allow the Nacionalni Stroj, a neo-Nazi group, to hold a rally in Novi Sad on October 7. WCJ protests neo-Nazi rally "The extremist views and neo-Nazi activities of Nacionalni Stroj are well known and are contrary to the principles of a democratic society which nurtures the respect and protection of minorities," the letter signed by WJC President Ronald Lauder and Acting Secretary General Michael Schneider said. "As an organization representing Jews worldwide, we are specially sensitive to growing anti-Semitism, racism and xenophobia through the world ... Those who are behind this worrying trend cannot be allowed to spread their dangerous ideas of hatred," the letter set out. The WJC demanded from the Serbian government to strongly condemn the announced rally and do everything to stop Nacionalni Stroj from continuing its campaign.
