Bojan Kostres says Velimir Ilic is trying to divert attention from the shortcomings of the Horgos-Pozega deal. “Ilic seems to believe that he can cover up the truth regarding the the Horgos-Pozega highway contract by using his trademark rhetoric and calling me a traitor, separatist and a foreign mercenary,” the Vojvodina assembly speaker said Saturday, in response to the infrastructure minister’s allegations. Official calls for probe into Ilic’s activities "Why would he think that Vojvodina will stand peacefully while he is actually robbing us,” Kostres wondered. He alleged that annex 12, still unavailable to the public, contains a formula for calculating and collecting road tolls according to which Vojvodina will lose EUR 200mn in the next two and a half decades. "I do hope the competent bodies will investigate in detail Ilic’s business activities, starting from dubious deals during his election campaign to the concession contract," Kostres concluded. Serbia signed the concession contract for the construction and maintenance of the highway running from the Hungarian border to the south-central parts of the country with a Spanish - Austrian consortium, made up of FCC and Alpine Mayreder, on March 30 this year. It took the government almost five months to reveal the contract and 14 of its annexes to the public, while five still remain unavailable. Kostres has been one of the most vocal critics of the deal, prompting Ilic, prone to verbal and sometimes physical showdowns in public, to Friday brand him and reporters "primitive, illiterate and ignorant", for their desire to learn more about the concession, reportedly worth over EUR 1bn.
