The solution to the Kosovo status may have to wait for after the Russian presidential elections, an expert says. Executive Director of the Balkan Fund for Democracy Ivan Vejvoda said on Saturday that the solution for the province "may wait until April or May next year", adding there were indications that the outcome of the March 9 Russian presidential elections may be awaited. Kosovo may wait for Russian election Status negotiations could continue December 10, when UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon must receive the first report on the results, Vejvoda said, but "this can last some time longer, not indefinitely," he told the Saturday issue of the daily Gradjanski List. Vejvoda, who was the foreign policy advisor of assassinated Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic, believes that unless Belgrade and Pristina suggest a compromise solution to the Contact Group's negotiating Troika, the "Troika itself will suggest some possible options." "Both sides will probably be told to see which offers are realistic, since this situations with unresolved status cannot last for ever," he said. Vejvoda added that, despite Ambassador Frank Wisner's statement that the Ahtisaari plan might make it to the agenda once again, a compromise would be found within the negotiating Troika. "They must agree on what is realistic for them and then Belgrade and Pristina will find a solution that would be the best for the promotion of their economic development and inclusion in the European and Euro-Atlantic processes," Vejvoda believes.
