The EU has a responsibility to search for a permanent solution to the Kosovo crisis, Luis Amado said Wednesday. The Portuguese Foreign Minister arrived in Pristina after a brief visit to Belgrade this morning where he met with the Minister for Kosovo Slobodan Samardzic. Portuguese FM: Agreement unlikely in Kosovo talks “New talks on resolving the future status of the breakaway Serbian province are unlikely to produce an agreement,” he said following a meeting with Kosovo president Fatmir Sejdiu, the AP reported from Pristina. "The European Union is the key to bridging differences between the two sides. The issue of Kosovo is a problem in the heart of Europe” stressed Amado, whose country is currently chairing the EU. "The EU should not be distant from the solutions. We need to work to stabilize the situation." During the visit, Amado will meet with Kosovo Albanian officials and representatives of the international community. He is also expected to meet with UN Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) chief Joachim Ricker and NATO Mission in Kosovo (KFOR) commander Roland Kather. The chief of Portuguese diplomacy will also have a joint meeting with the head of the EU Planning Team for Kosovo Casper Kling and the head of the International Civil Office Jonas Jonsson, who is the personal envoy of Javier Solana, High Representative of the EU. Amado will also visit the 300 Portuguese KFOR soldiers stationed in the province. The EU’s Contact Group Troika Representative Wolfgang Ischinger arrives in Pristina tomorrow on a two-day visit as announced yesterday.
