Alexeyev dismisses Gallach statement

Alexeyev dismisses Gallach statement

Gallach also told Večernje Novosti daily that the EU would then ask for the backing of the United Nations Security Council.

“Russia is defending its stances and has its own interests involved, but Kosovo is a European question and we let Moscow know that we are interested in solving the problem, and that we consider it to be our problem. The future of the Balkans depends on Europe, not on Russia,” Gallach was quoted as saying.

“This is not an EU position, this is simply a statement coming from one person and it is wrong. This is not the kind of language that can be used in communication with Russia,” the ambassador told journalists, as he was presented with 500,000 signatures collected by the Socialist Party of Serbia in the “For Kosovo and Metojiha’s Defense” campaign.

“The Kosovo issue is of vital importance to the Serbs and we are persistently working on it. I think it is also very important for the Balkans and all of Europe to preserve international law and international stability,” Alexeyev said.

He added Russia maintained its position that the solution to the future status of the province can only be found in negotiations between Belgrade and Priština, while any imposed solution would prove to be “very dangerous”.
