No Kosovo resolution this week

“It has been announced, which I think is important, that Vladimir Putin will be traveling to the U.S., where he will meet with President George Bush on July 1 and 2. If nothing is cleared up during the G8 summit and there is no agreement on how it will be presented to the UN Security Council [SC], Putin’s visit will be another chance for finding an agreement,” Vejvoda said.

He added that Kosovo is only one topic on the G8 agenda. If Putin and Bush do not find a compromise at the summit, the UN SC voting will probably be postponed until July.

“I think that the U.S. wants to avoid a conflict that could lead to a Russian veto, which in turn would lead to regional instability. I think that Europe has a clear stance, because it will take over Kosovo’s mandate, and have everything remain within the framework of its institutions. So, the United States will probably be urged not force the document,” Vejvoda said.
