Slovak FM fears upshots of Kosovo independence

"In the text, it should be shown more strongly that it is a solution sui generis (unique solution)," Sme quoted Kubis as saying.

Kubis referred to unspecified media reports suggesting ethnic Hungarians in Slovakia and other countries could "use the situation to their benefit."

"We're not in favor of collective rights, certainly not for ethnic minorities, and certainly not ... on Slovak territory," Kubis said.

More than 500,000 ethnic Hungarians live in Slovakia's south and southeast, just outside neighboring Hungary. They account for about 10 percent of Slovakia's 5 million population.

Kubis said, however, that Slovakia, a member of the U.N. Security Council, would vote along with other EU nations on the resolution.
