Serbia still without functional parliament

The Democrats (DS) candidate for the spot, Milena Milošević, was supported only by G 17 Plus and the LDP.

The Democrats pushed for scheduling of a parliament session that would amend the law on budgetary system, making the temporary financing arrangement legal.

Although the proposal did not receive majority backing, Borka Vučić, parliament’s temporary speaker from the ranks of the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS), could schedule a new session within days. SPS president Ivica Dačić told journalists this was in fact “her duty”.

Koštunica’s Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS), however, opposed the proposal to elect a new parliament speaker, saying the issue should be solved as part of “a firm coalition agreement on the next government.”
