NEW YORK, BELGRADE Russian deputy FM Vladimir Titov says Russia will deny support to Ahtisaari’s plan for Kosovo in its current form. “If UN envoy’s plan to settle the status of the Serb province was put to vote in its current form, without Serbia’s approval, Russia would deny its support," Titov told ITAR Tass following the meeting with U.S. Under secretary of State for Political Affairs Nicholas Burns held in New York. “Russia against current plan for Kosovo” "Russia cannot consent to the partition of a state’s territory, without an approval of the state in question,” Titov added. The Russian deputy foreign minister said he thoroughly revised the process of Kosovo’s status settlement with Nicholas Burns, touching on the upcoming debate in the UN Security Council. Martti Ahtisaari is likely to attend the UN SC session exclusively dedicated to Kosovo scheduled for Tuesday, April 3. “Serbia to accept loss of Kosovo” UK's Minister for Europe Geoffrey Hoon has said that the Serbian Government must reconcile with the imminent loss of Kosovo, while the Kosovo government needs to accept supervised independence, having in mind that such an outcome "would likely bring stability to the region." In an op-ed published in Saturday’s Blic daily, Hoon added that Ahtisaari’s proposal “balanced out a need to grant the request for independence to Kosovo’s majority and an obligation to secure minority rights for non-Albanian communities residing in the province, particularly those of Kosovo Serbs.” Referring to the European prospects of the Western Balkans region, Hoon said that “Kosovo and the wide region of the Western Balkans were an integrative part of Europe.” “It would run against any political, geographic and economic logic to create a black hole in the heart of Europe,” Hoon concluded.
