UN Security Council on Kosovo tomorrow

The UN SC session tomorrow will not address the proposal compiled by Martti Ahtisaari, submitted to the UN secretary-general Ban Ki-moon last Thursday.

Ahead of his trip to New York Ruecker told journalists his report to the Security Council on implementation of the standards in the province for the period between November 2006 and February 2007 would be “positive”.

Ruecker told RFE the Monday UN meeting on Kosovo might be the last to discuss standards implementation as the issue would “after the status is determined be within the EU jurisdiction.”

“We will report progress in the past three months. Of course, there still are problems, but the work needs to be continued. Kosovo’s institutions need to focus on implementing the standards. For example, there are still problems related to the return of refugees, rule of law, and other things, but the report will basically be positive,” Ruecker said.
