Cabinet talks heat up

The Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) accepted the G17 Plus’ proposal that the DS and DSS leaders should disclose their aspirations regarding the two most prominent posts.

Following the DSS-G17 meeting, G17 Plus representative Tomica Milosavljević said that the agreement was indeed possible, having in mind that the new government needs a solid basis.

DSS vice president Dragan Jočić said that the personnel issues were not yet discussed and nothing was fixed in that sense.

In the meantime, the Democrats have been taken aback by the fact that the DSS and G17 Plus questioned the post of the state president.

The DS is expected to meet the DSS tomorrow and demand clarification.

DS to give up premiership?

The DS are ready to give over the prime minister post to Vojislav Koštunica on the condition that they get the interior and justice ministries, along with half of the total personnel structure of the government, the daily Blic reported.

According to the daily’s sources, the DS senior council at the closed part of meeting held Saturday in Niš, decided to endow the DS Presidency with full authorization to carry out the cabinet talks so as to avoid a large-scale debate and divisions within the party should the DS allow Koštunica to be the prime minister.

“The DS senior council will not have to convene again to decide on the matter, and the DS high officials will be given enough time to convince the rest of the senior council members that their decision was wise, as they would receive half of all cabinet departments”, Blic quoted its sources as saying.
