When asked whether the capturing of war crimes fugitive Ratko Mladić must precede any resumption of the talks, she replied that the Serbian government “must achieve full co-operation with the Hague so as to successfully apprehend the remaining Hague indictees”.

Germany and Denmark encourage Serbia

Foreign Ministers of Germany and Denmark, Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Per Stig Moeller, say that Serbia should jump at the opportunity to set a course towards Europe, the daily Blic reports.

“Should Serbia and its people, known for their pride and tradition, opt for the European path, the EU will be a reliable partner on this road”, the German FM said.

He added that the EU would renew negotiations with Serbia once the Serbian Government “took concrete steps to promote its co-operation with the Hague”.

Steinmeier reiterated the position of the Contact Group over Kosovo, which excludes partition of the province as an option, adding that the settlement proces of the Kosovo status issue would draw heavily on the talks set to begin today in Vienna.

Danish FM Per Stig Moeller, who is expected to arrive in Belgrade later today, praised the results of the January elections in Serbia. “Serbian voters placed a democratic majority in the Parliament”, he was quoted as saying.

“I urge Serbia to engage and jump at the opportunity that lies ahead”, Moeller suggested.
