Serbs as partners

EU and U.S. officials also met with members of the Serbian List in Kosovo. List leader Oliver Ivanović told B92 that he met with the international officials to talk about the security of Serbs in the region and the decentralization of the Kosovo government. He said that it is clear through all recent discussions that the international community’s main goal is to keep Kosovo a multi-ethnic entity.

“Their stance is very clear, that multi-ethnicity means that Serbs must remain here. It is clearer every time that we will be their partners in this goal.” Ivanović said, adding that this means that Serbs would have to participate in the regional institutions with the help of the international community in establishing fair treatment.

He also said that most of the control in implementing this plan of multi-ethnicity will remain with the international UN mission in Kosovo and the EU.

“This means that they will oversee, control, and sanction the plan, which is an important difference compared to what the UNMIK mission is doing currently.” Ivanović said.
