EC to discuss potential candidates

The EC said that the Kosovo status solution must set a foundation for a “stable democracy” for all citizens and “strengthen the rule of law and improve on the protection of human and minority rights.”

The report states that the relationship between the Kosovo Serbs and Albanians is still unstable and that minorities in Kosovo remain in an unsatisfactory situation, adding that the conditions for refugees and displaces persons returning are still very difficult.

The EC’s report also states, according to BBC, that the countries of the Western Balkans have made progress, but that they cannot expect to enter the European Union soon. It is stressed that it will take many years for the countries of the region to be accepted into the EU, and Brussels is calling on the countries to join forces in setting a concrete date for their entrance.
