NATO-Serbia conference begins
Stanković said that he expects that the Serbian Parliament will, after adopting the new Constitution, adopt all legal proposals and strategic documents related to the Serbian military.Stanković added that the Serbian military wants to get back into the European integration process and to participate in international peace-keeping missions with more soldiers.
Director of the Council for the planning of NATO forces, Frank Boland, said that NATO has not decided yet on whether it will call Serbia to join the Partnership, but said that NATO will remain firm on its insistence for Serbia to complete its obligations to the Hague Tribunal.
“At this moment, Serbia is not doing enough in its cooperation with The Hague. However, the decision to call Serbia to join the PFP has still not been made and I do not know whether it will change by the time of the summit in Riga.” Boland said.
Deputy Defense Minister for Defense Politics Snežana Samardžić-Marković said that Hague cooperation remains the main obstacle and that Serbia has fulfilled all other professional conditions for joining the PFP.
Serbian Parliamentary Speaker Predrag Marković spoke at the opening of the conference and commended the military for its goals of implementing reforms.
