“I understand that Serbia is in a difficult situation, the transition from communism to capitalism, from a single-party state to a democracy, but it appears to me that the time has come to make a clear decision.” Fücks said.

He said that this also includes a clear realization that Kosovo will not be ruled by Serbia, because it was gambled away during the Milošević era, and that a separation from extremist groups is also important, which would best be demonstrated with the arrest of Ratko Mladić.

German parliamentary official, Green Party representative and member of the Foreign Affairs Council, Marieluise Beck, said that the Kosovo status question is a very difficult one for Serbia.

“It is clear to the international community that Kosovo independence will strengthen the radical forces in Serbia. However, it is also clear that Kosovo cannot be returned to Serbia because of what was done by Milošević’s military.” Beck said.
