“Milošević stopped short of something like this”
“Even Milošević stopped short of something like this. They have become the worst there could be. They have even managed to breach Milošević’s law on referendum and popular initiative. And that is not all – on the October 17session, they broke the rules even Milošević never broke, by saying the fact the voting box contains a number of ballots greater than the number of citizens who cast them does not constitute for an illegal election”, Jovanović said. The rally was attended, among others, by journalist Petar Luković, former deputy Minister of the Interior Nenad Milić, and NGO activists.
Democrats: Leave Milošević’s heritage behind
Democratic Party (DS) vice president Dušan Petrović called on citizens to take part in the constitutional referendum scheduled for October 28 and 29, and support the new constitution proposal since it is “better than Milošević’s”.“It is time for Serbia to get a new constitution and it is time to leave Miloševoć’s legal framework behind, thus entering a new age”, Petrović said.
He repeated that the Democrats back presidential and parliamentary elections, since it is, in his words, natural to seek legitimacy for the job that lies ahead after the elections.
“Don’t be mislead into thinking that compared to the DS, anyone else has more strength, or better ideas and political projects needed for Serbia to join the EU. If we don’t succeed at this, our children will not have a chance to, perhaps our grandchildren will”, Petrović was quoted.
He said the DS was a social-democratic party that believed every member of our society must be given opportunities, which will prevent the society from turning to radicalism.
