First elections, then status

Solana said that if the constitutional referendum is held in Serbia at the end of October, a reasonable decision on postponing the Kosovo status solution will probably follow.

“Last week saw many important events; Serbian President Boris Tadić and Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Koštunica reached an agreement, on the foundation of which they found a constitutional solution, so elections will be announced by the end of the year, which is a primary change.” Solana said.

Nikolić’s take on elections

Serbian Radical Party leader Tomislav Nikolić said that it would be best to hold parliamentary elections first, and then presidential.

Nikolić said that a new parliament must be assembled, which will be formed by a new coalition which will have its own presidential candidate. In this way, he said, the possiblity of having a president and prime minister who are in conflict with one another would be avoided.
