First elections, then status
Solana said that if the constitutional referendum is held in Serbia at the end of October, a reasonable decision on postponing the Kosovo status solution will probably follow.“Last week saw many important events; Serbian President Boris Tadić and Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Koštunica reached an agreement, on the foundation of which they found a constitutional solution, so elections will be announced by the end of the year, which is a primary change.” Solana said.
Nikolić’s take on elections
Serbian Radical Party leader Tomislav Nikolić said that it would be best to hold parliamentary elections first, and then presidential.Nikolić said that a new parliament must be assembled, which will be formed by a new coalition which will have its own presidential candidate. In this way, he said, the possiblity of having a president and prime minister who are in conflict with one another would be avoided.
