Ruecker unaware of violence threats

EU Political Security committee ambassadors insisted strongly on the implementation of the democratic principles in the province.

Any delay will have adverse political and economic consequences, since the international community considers present state of affairs unsustainable. UNMIK chief also said Kosovo interim administration has made additional effort to reach out to the Serb community. Ruecker said that although the Contact Group made a number of demands in that regard, Kosovo Serbs too must make an effort to integrate.

“I regret that Serbs are not taking part in Kosovo’s political life and I am making an appeal to the representatives of the hard-line policies in Belgrade to enable the Kosovo Serbs to take part in the political and economic life of Kosovo”, Ruecker concluded.

“Infectious agent”

Kosovo Coordinating Center chairwoman Sanda Rašković-Ivić says Serbia is not the only country that faces a hostile population in a part of its territory.

“There are many European countries with hostile populations. However, the principle of essential autonomy gives Albanians full self-governance, puts their future in their own hands and opens up a possibility of a very flexible participation in Serbia’s social and political life”, Rašković-Ivić said.

“Kosovo will turn into a black hole without the international community’s presence there, a horrible state that would act like an infectious agent for the whole region that no one would be able to handle. Kosovo society is burdened by organized crime and human, arms and drug trafficking, no to mention individual lack of security for the non-Albanians”, Rašković-Ivić believes.

“We think the international community should keep its military and civilian presence in the Province for a number of years to come. Anyhow, it’s obligated to do so”, Sanda Rašković-Ivić said.
