Candidate shot dead in Novi Pazar

Today local elections are held in Novi Pazar, Sjenica, Žitište and Blace.

The municipal elections are taking place after the government introduced temporary measures last spring.  A tense atmpsphere was expected in Sandžak. Sulejman Ugljanin’s SDA is supported by DSS and New Serbia, while Rasim Ljajić’s SDP has been backed by G17 Plus and the Democrats.

Ten parties and coalitions will compete for 47 seats in Novi Pazar’s municipal assembly. 69,0199 voters are eligible to cast their ballots at 89 polling stations.

The municipality of Sjenica has 25,107 registered voters, who will choose between 11 party and coalition candidates running for 39 municipal assembly seats.

Žitište’s 16,100 voters will choose 31 municipal assembly deputies from between 306 candidates running on 15 different tickets, including 10 political parties and five groups of citizens.

Lastly, 11,000 voters are eligible to elect Blace municipality’s new assembly. The 29 seats are competed for by candidates running on 12 electoral lists.
