Koštunica allowed a personal visit to Kosovo

UNMIK representative Neeraj Sing said that Koštunica’s request was discussed along with ten other, similar requests from Serbia and Russia, and that the entire package of people will be allowed to make the visit to Kosovo on Vidovdan.

“We want these visits to take place on the basis that they were announced, on religious terms and not on a political basis.” Sing said.

Even though Koštunica will not be meeting with any officials of the international community in Priština, the Kosovo Government and parliament are strongly protesting the visit of the Serbian Prime Minister.

Kosovo Parliamentary Speaker Kolj Berisa said that he would have not permitted Koštunica to visit if he had had a say in the matter.

“We will be able to visit Serbia and its officials will be able to visit Kosovo once we have separated completely.” Berisa said.

Kosovo Government spokesperson Uljpijane Ljama said that many prime ministers of good will have visited Kosovo in that last seven years, but that Koštunica is not considered to be one.

“In the current circumstances, this visit will be made without an invitation and without being welcomed.” Ljama said.
