Albanians in south to request community of municipalities

PREŠEVO -- Ethnic Albanians in southern Serbia will request from the Serbian government to form a community of Albanian municipalities.
They will demand that their community be modeled after a community of Serb municipalities in Kosovo.
A session of the assembly of Albanian municipal councilors from Preševo, Bujanovac and Medveđa is held today in Preševo.
The ethnic Albanians stand by their positions that they should have at least the same rights as Serbs in northern Kosovo.
The final decision on the issue should be made today.
A session of the Albanian councilors of the Preševo Valley was suddenly called on Friday but political leaders of ethnic Albanians did not say what would be discussed.
Preševo Mayor and Democratic Party of Albanians (DPA) leader Ragmi Mustafa did not want to say why the emergency session was called.
“We will offer councilors a document that will be our platform in the upcoming talks between Belgrade and Preševo Valley Albanians,” he told B92.
Democratic Union of the Valley leader Skender Destani said that the document would represents Albanians’ response to Belgrade’s offer regarding normalization of relations.
A dialogue between Coordination Body for Southern Serbia Chairman Zoran Stanković and political leaders of ethnic Albanians started on February 15 in OSCE Mission’s office in Bujanovac.
The Albanians sent a letter to Belgrade and relevant international institutions with eight requests.
They believe that a body modeled after the community of Serb municipalities would solve all problems much faster in the future.
