LUANDA Serbia is a European country, but wishes to renew old friendships, First Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Aleksandar Vucic said in Angola on Monday. The Serbian official was in Luanda for meetings with Angola's top officials, including Defense Minister Gen. Candido Pereira dos Santos Van-Dunem. Deputy PM expected to sign several contracts in Angola Vucic was welcomed at the Ministry of Defense in Luanda with highest state and military honors, after which the two delegations began talks on the implementation of cooperation projects between Serbia and Angola, his office said in a release. "We are willing to work on speedier development of our relations in the area of defense, economic development, and other spheres of social life," said Vucic. General Van-Dunem noted that reform of the security sector is one of Angola's priorities and the country is counting on Serbia's assistance. The two defense ministers stressed the importance of building a military hospital in Angola which would offer specialist medical treatment and research capacities. In the domain of military personnel training, they stressed the importance of the education of Angolan personnel in all branches of the land forces, air force and air defense. Vucic and Van-Dunem signed a protocol on the education of Angolan cadets in Serbia and agreed about the need to appoint military envoys in the near future. On Wednesday, the two ministers will sign a joint statement on the talks between the delegations of the Serbian and Angolan defense ministries. Earlier today, the local press in Angola reported that Serbia would help build and equip a military hospital in this African country. During the three-day visit, Vucic will also meet with President Eduardo dos Santos and the Angolan armed forces chief.
