"Security situation worsened in Vojvodina"

NOVI SAD President of the Vojvodina Provincial Assembly Istvan Pastor sent a letter to PM Ivica Dacic on Friday. In it, he expressed his "deep concern over the recent worsening of the security situation in Vojvodina," the office of the president of the assembly said in a release. "Security situation worsened in Vojvodina" "The fact that the institutional mechanisms for protecting personal and property safety of in the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina are not functioning is deeply concerning," Pastor said in the letter. Pointing to "a series of events and incidents that jeopardized the safety of the citizens in Novi Sad, Temerin, Becej and Subotica the previous week", Pastor said that such events "unfortunately are making fear, uncertainty and anxiety part of everyday life of people". Pastor said in his letter that he is "worried about the fact that incidents are occurring that threaten mutual trust and inter-ethnic respect between communities in Vojvodina". Pastor demands from the Serbian prime minister to state "what specific measures the Serbian government and the Interior Ministry will take to ensure the rights of citizens to live in a safe environment, to prevent escalation of inter-ethnic incidents, and to protect, promote and improve the rights of persons belonging to national minorities guaranteed to them by the law and the Constitution".
