DS leader: Elections are in sight

BELGRADE -- Democratic Party (DS) leader Dragan Đilas says it is completely clear that the government does not know how to improve citizens' standard of living.

He added that “elections are in sight” precisely because of that.
“The country has taken several steps back. The economy is slowly dying out and the government does not know how to strengthen the economy and it is sliding toward a recession,” Đilas told daily Večernje novosti and assessed that differences in the ruling coalition were “irreconcilable” and that they “are paralyzing the state”.
When asked if he was ready to form a coalition with Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) leader Aleksandar Vučić, he said that “the story is launched by (United Regions of Serbia leader Mlađan) Dinkić and (Socialist Party of Serbia leader Ivica) Dačić”.
“It is only illogical that they claim at the same time that there will be no elections. I do not understand how a coalition is being prepared if there will be no elections. The DS will go to the elections with a new program and we cannot make coalition with anyone who is not ready to share basic values we will advocate. I am not interested in the names of the parties,” the DS leader pointed out.
