Committee chair: Nikolić-Jahjaga meeting soonSource: Tanjug
BELGRADE -- The chairman of the Parliament Committee on Kosovo and Metohija has said that a meeting between Tomislav Nikolić and Atifete Jahjaga would take place "soon".
"With the adoption of the resolution on Kosovo, the necessary framework has been created to elevate talks to the highest political level and for this meeting to take place," said Milovan Drecun, who is an MP from the ranks of the ruling SNS.
"This shows we are committed to the dialogue with Priština and we want to talk not only about technical and mid-level issues, but also about the most sensitive political topics," Drecun told reporters on Tuesday.
The meeting will afford Belgrade greater opportunity to influence processes in Kosovo, he added.
"We are headed in the right direction, regardless of Priština trying to destabilize southern Serbia and Kosovo in order to slow down the process. A meeting between Nikolić and Jahjaga would also be viewed very well in the international community, especially in Brussels, as Belgrade's strong contribution to stabilization of affairs between Belgrade and Priština," said Drecun.
Commenting on the statement of Riza Halimi, an ethnic Albanian MP from southern Serbia, that Belgrade makes decisions without consulting representatives of political parties in southern Serbia, Drecun said they had the option of presenting their positions in the parliament and through the local administrations in the municipalities where they are in power, through the Serbian government Coordination Body for Preševo, Bujanovac and Medveđa, and by communicating with the government.
"They do not want to make decisions together with Belgrade and often act as if Belgrade was not the capital of the state they live in and often go to Priština or Tirana. When they change this attitude, I think the situation will improve significantly," said Drecun, adding he "did not see the government's door was closed to dialogue and solving problems".
