Disagreement in EU on suspending visa-free regimeSource: Tanjug, Večernje novosti
BRUSSELS -- European Parliament member Tanja Fajon has said there is concern in the EU over the influx of fake asylum seekers from the Western Balkans.
She added, however, that "because of disagreement within the EU, there is no danger yet of visas being reintroduced."
The EU is still concerned over the great influx of fake asylum seekers from Serbia and other countries of the Western Balkans, but because of the current circumstances and disagreement within the EU between the European Parliament, European Commission and European Council, there should be no concern about visas being reintroduced, Fajon told Belgrade's Večernje Novosti daily.
As the rapporteur for the European socialists on suspending the visa-free regime, she said an agreement between the three EU institutions was not in sight.
"There are still negotiations on the mechanism for a temporary suspension, based on a European Commission document that we have had for two years now, she noted. There was another trilateral meeting last week, but no agreement was reached," Fajon added.
