BELGRADE Nebojsa Stefanovic told B92 TV on Tuesday in Belgrade that a partition of Kosovo was "not acceptable" to the ruling Serb Progressive Party (SNS). Such a solution "would be against the Constitution of the Republic of Serbia", this SNS official, who is also Serbian parliament speaker, noted. Progressives find partition of Kosovo "unacceptable" The assertion that the only viable solution for the Kosovo impasse was to partition the province was heard last week from Serbia's PM Ivica Dacic, who is the leader of the Socialists Party of Serbia (SPS). Stefanovic also told B92 that he" cannot comment on speculations about whether Serbia will be asked to sign an agreement on cooperation with Kosovo" - something that was heard as one of Germany's demands for Serbia's continued EU integration - but added: "We cannot sign an agreement on good-neighborly cooperation with a part of our territory, since this is one country, and if such a thing is offered, it will not be acceptable for Serbia." Asked why the adoption of a national strategy for Kosovo and Metohija was delayed, he said it was "better for the country to be without such a document for a few more weeks, than to have a bad strategy which would, like in the case of the previous government, lead to a very bad result of the policy towards the southern province". Commenting on allegations that a referendum might be called allowing Serbians to decide whether they wished to join the EU if the condition was to recognize Kosovo as independent, Stefanovic said he "did not see the need for a referendum at this point": "When the new strategy for Kosovo is adopted, we can talk about this. I do not expect that such a dilemma will arise, since Serbia sees Kosovo as its part, and I am convinced that we will also become an EU member. No one from the EU has asked us to recognize independent Kosovo and I do not see why we would deal with this hypothetical issue at all." Addressing the issue of corruption, Stefanovic stated that "certain dubious privatizations may be clarified in the next seven to ten days". At the sane time, he did not wish to name the companies in question, stressing that the current government "will not press charges in the media and conduct political processes". “There is determination to embark on an ultimate detection of all illegalities,” Stefanovic said, adding that members of the SNS party "will not be spared if it turns out that they are involved in corruption".
