BELGRADE Russian Ambassador in Belgrade Aleksandr Konuzin has stated that Russia is working very closely with the new Serbian government. He told daily Danas that the upcoming meeting of Serbian and Russian Presidents Tomislav Nikolic and Vladimir Putin will be of working character and that it was necessary to define further steps in the economic cooperation. Ambassador: Russia works closely with Serbian govt. Stressing that new ruling structures were formed in both Russia and Serbia after the recently held presidential and parliamentary elections, Konuzin said that “bearing in mind a great potential of our cooperation in all spheres, there is a need to advise each other on how to build our relations in the future”. The Russian ambassador noted that the two presidents will discuss international issues as well and that “Putin will be interested to hear from Tomislav Nikolic about Serbia’s current position regarding the solving of the Kosovo issue”. “The Russian side will advocate the respect of a peaceful solution to the province’s problems that is based on the international law, primarily on the UN Security Council Resolution 1244. Russia will again support such position on the highest level,” he explained. When asked what Belgrade and Pristina should discuss in the continuation of the dialogue in Moscow’s opinion, the ambassador said that “the interested parties need to determine the topics of the dialogue, without foreign pressures”. “The most important thing is not to allow illegal imposing of solutions to the Kosovo issue to the detriment of Serbia’s historical interests and to advantage of the conjectural political pressure,” Konuzin concluded.
