Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) leader Ivica Dacic has informed Miroslav Lajcak that the SPS-led coalition insists on forming the government with the Democrats. The EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs Catherine Ashton’s envoy and Slovak FM arrived in Belgrade on Thursday and conferred with Dacic and newly elected president Tomislav Nikolic. Socialists “insist on govt. with Democrats” “I pointed out that the SPS and our coalition with the Party of United Pensioners of Serbia (PUPS) and United Serbia (JS) insist on the fast forming of the newly elected authorities and on a quick agreement on the forming of the government based on the principled agreement with the Democratic Party that has already been reached,” Dacic told Tanjug after the meeting with Lajcak. Dacic stressed that “the EU certainly will not decide on the forming of the new government, it will be decided in Serbia”. “The story in public that the DS and SNS are being blackmailed is made up and it only serves as an alibi for the fact that there still are no negotiations about the forming of the government,” he added. The SPS leader added that he and Lajcak had discussed the political situation in Serbia after the parliamentary and presidential elections. Dacic did not confirm that he had started negotiations on the government with the Democrats or the Progressives, even though SPS official Milutin Mrkonjic said earlier that the talks were underway. He stressed that the “ball is in the SNS and DS’ court” and that “some Western countries wanted the DS and the SNS to form the government”. He noted that he did not see why the SPS-PUPS-JS coalition would be a part of the coalition with the DS and the SNS if they agreed on the parliamentary majority and on the forming of the government. “Why would we be a part of that government,” the SPS leader asked. According to him, there are several ways the DS and the SNS could form the government. He pointed out that he was not complaining and that he simply did not want anyone to blame him for the lost time. “The process is dictated by the SNS and DS and the SPS-PUPS-JS coalition will respond to every call to form the government,” Dacic stated. He said that the DS should say openly whether it wanted to form the government with the Socialists and to present their candidate for prime minister. According to Dacic, the SNS has not made any proposals regarding the possible government with the SPS. SPS-PUPS-JS coalition leaders Beta Tanjug
