Ivica Dacic says he was not informed about an arrest operation launched yesterday in connection to the 2008 incidents when foreign embassies were targeted. Ten persons have been placed under arrest on Tuesday and Wednesday, but Serbia's interior minister stated today that he received no information "either from police or from the prosecution": Interior minister: Police acted without my knowledge "I have nothing to do with this, because nobody informed me about it, which I consider to be impermissible. I consider this to be an absolutely poor example of doing things." Dacic also noted that he cannot take responsibility for the work of the Interior Ministry (MUP) if police are acting without his knowledge. "The Law on Police obligates them to keep me informed about their work. I have not been informed, and I ordered an investigation to be conducted into how this happened," he revealed. Considering that more than four years passed since the incident, Dacic was asked if this "could have happened sooner". "I think this is only a part of the problem and that other aspects need to be considered as well as the behavior of police then, which clearly has not been the focus now. Whether mistakes occurred, intentional or not, and whether they contributed to the setting on fire of the (U.S.) embassy? From that point of view, I'm sure this could have been done sooner, but I do not understand the need to do it a day ahead of the derby," Dacic was quoted as saying. The minister was referring to the Red Star vs. Partizan football match, scheduled for Wednesday evening in Belgrade. Ivica Dacic (Beta, file) B92
