Police launched an arrest operation to apprehend 14 persons suspected of setting fire to foreign embassies during a protest in Belgrade in 2008. This was confirmed on Tuesday by Serbian Public Prosecutor Zagorka Dolovac. Prosecutor: Arrests for embassy incidents underway The operation is underway and the police should arrest all suspects over the next few days and initiate criminal proceedings against them, Dolovac told the media. She specified that the Prosecutor's Office collected evidence for over a year, including the tapes from foreign embassies in Belgrade and identified participants in the riots on the basis of the videos. According to Dolovac, the list of suspects includes football hooligans known for causing incidents during sports events. The U.S. embassy was set on fire by a group of rioters after a massive rally in Belgrade in February 2008, organized to protest against the ethnic Albanian unilateral declaration of independence of Kosovo. Several other embassies were also targeted. The trial of one suspect - Milan Zivanovic - started in Belgrade last year. Zivanovic was charged with causing general danger, but he denied setting fire to the building, telling the court at the same time that he did take down the American flag, to display the Serbian instead. 20-year-old internally displaced Serb from Kosovo Zoran Vujovic died during the incident at the U.S. embassy.
