Serbs to open one lane on some roads

Mayors of the four Serb municipalities in northern Kosovo decided on Wednesday that one lane will open for traffic on certain roads as of 09:00 CET on Thursday.

Mayors of the four Serb municipalities in northern Kosovo decided on Wednesday that one lane will open for traffic on certain roads as of 09:00 CET on Thursday. The meeting in the northern town on Wednesday was attended by the representatives of UNMIK, KFOR, OSCE, and EULEX. Serbs to open one lane on some roads "In line with the decision of the four municipal assemblies and recommendation of Serbian President Boris Tadic to enable KFOR to deliver supplies to its troops and allow their free movement to this end as soon as possible, at today's meeting with representatives of KFOR and other international organizations, we brought forward a concrete plan which allows passage to KFOR units in our municipalities," reads the release issued by the mayors. "The plan will be implemented as of 9 am tomorrow and will include opening one lane on certain roads," explains the release. "We expect EULEX will intensify talks with the Serbian government and other bodies regarding the problems related to the mission's operation in northern Kosovo," concludes the release. The release was signed by Zvecan Mayor Dragisa Milovic, who was authorized by the mayors of the other municipalities. Local Serbs put up barricades to prevent the transport of Kosovo Albanian authorities' customs and police members to the Brnjak and Jarinje administrative line checkpoints, located between central Serbia and the province. Serbs form a majority north of the Ibar River, and reject both the authority of the government in Pristina and the Kosovo Albanian unilateral declaration of independence made in February 2008.
