KFOR Commander Erhard Drews believes that the Wednesday meeting in Zvecan is unnecessary, according to reports from Kosovo. Even though Kosovo Serbs have invited him, Drews will not appear at the meeting, said commander's spokesperson on Tuesday evening. KFOR commander refuses to attend meeting “General Drews has so far met with municipal presidents for a number of times and clearly stated his position. He will not attend the Wednesday meeting primarily for other obligations,” Spokesman Uwe Nowitzki explained in a statement, adding that the KFOR commander had received a letter from north Kosovo municipal presidents. Nowitzki recalled that the KFOR position implied unconditioned freedom of movement for all citizens and international missions, stressing that this was in line with KFOR mandate and international documents referring to presence of international forces in Kosovo. He said that the Wednesday meeting would be the same as any other Wednesday that was a working one. Northern Kosovo municipal representatives sent a letter to Drews, informing him about their readiness to enable the freedom of movement to KFOR troops as quickly as possible. After the meeting with Serbian President Boris Tadic, the heads of four northern Kosovo municipalities are ready to enable the freedom of movement as quickly as possible with a view to normalization of supply of KFOR troops, the letter to Drews reads. The letter proposes that technical details should be set at the Wednesday coordination meeting in Zvecan. Coordination meetings of municipal presidents and representatives of KFOR, EULEX, UNMIK and OSCE, which have been so far represented at a lower level, are held in the building of the Zvecan Municipal Assembly on Wednesdays. Nowitzki also said that KFOR units had removed two barricades at the Brnjak administrative crossing and took over the third one which was recently put up about 600 meters east of the crossing. According to him, the Brnjak administrative crossing is functional, but the problem is a barricade located at the entrance to central Serbia.
