The Gabonese Republic has recognized Kosovo as independent, Albanian language media in Pristina reported on Thursday. According to this, Gabonese officials "verbally informed Kosovo representatives" about the decision. "Gabon recognizes Kosovo as independent" The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Pristina made an announcement about the recognition as well. It said the note from Gabon "expressed readiness to establish diplomatic relations". The ministry also said it "expected official confirmations of recognition of Kosovo from Nigeria and Ivory Coast". Previously, Pristina announced Nigeria's recognition, but this was later denied by Serbian officials. Kosovo's ethnic Albanians unilaterally declared independence in February 2008. Serbia rejected the proclamation as an illegal act of secession.
