EULEX special force operation in northern Kosovo as a part of the investigation into the murder of a Kosovo policeman on July 26 is over. EULEX Spokesman Nicholas Hawton told B92 earlier on Wednesday that the operation was carried out in the area of Zubin Potok and Zupce. EULEX, KFOR wrap up operation in northern Kosovo ”EULEX special forces with KFOR support are carrying out an operation in the area of Zubin Potok and Zupce. The operation refers to a criminal investigation into the murder of a Kosovo police member on July 26 near Zupce,” the EULEX spokesman told B92 on Wednesday morning. ”The investigation into the murder is led by EULEX and Kosovo police. The local authorities have been informed about the operation which is being carried out so as to strengthen the rule of law and bring to justice those responsible for the crime,” he pointed out. Kosovo policeman Enver Zumberi was shot in the head near the Brnjak administrative checkpoint after the authorities in Pristina had sent special police unit (ROSU) to take over the Jarinje and Brnjak administrative crossings. Kosovo police Regional Command Spokesman Besim Hoti told Tanjug that the EULEX had finished the operation around 11:00 CET. He did not say whether EULEX made any arrests. According to a Beta news agency reporter from the scene, strong KFOR and EULEX forces entered the village of Zupce around 05:00 CET and started searching local households for the perpetrators of the murder. Tanjug correspondent Zeljko Tvrdisic told B92 earlier that KFOR was still blocking roads leading to Zubin Potok but that a road from Kosovska Mitrovica to Ribarice had in the meantime been reopened for traffic. Local Serbs say that basic foodstuffs did not arrive this morning and that shops are closed, adding that they could not go work either. According to them, no arrests have been made. Hoti has said that local Serbs blocked roads between Kosovska Mitrovica and Zubin Potok this morning but pointed out that all roads are now open for traffic. (file)
