Serbia has asked the charge d'affaires of the Libyan embassy in Serbia to help provide more information regarding Serbians reportedly captured near Tripoli. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that they addressed the diplomat who several days ago displayed the flag of the Transitional National Council on the building housing the Libyan embassy in Belgrade. MFA requests assistance from Libyan embassy "We asked the charge d'affaires to lend us a hand in obtaining more information about the identity of five Serbian detainees and the reasons for their arrest," Tanjug learned from the MFA on Thursday afternoon. According to a statement, the ministry is fully engaged in a bid to obtain more information and learn about the identity of those captured, whose nationality has not yet been definitely confirmed as Serbian. The ministry said that the Serbian embassy in Tripoli was trying to get more information about the detainees in the still chaotic situation in the city, but that it was difficult to obtain "definite facts" due to the complex situation in Tripoli. Late on Wednesday, French news agency AFP quoted Libyan rebel fighter Ahmed Mehdi as saying that rebel forces captured five Serbian citizens in an attempt to secure the road on the line from the capital to the international airport. Earlier today, Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic addressed the issue while holding a joint news conference with RS President Milorad Dodik in Banja Luka, and said that the ministry was working to confirm the identity of the men. According to a Tanjug report, the minister said that it was "not important whether those people are from Serbia or RS, since they speak Serbian and come from the Balkans". "As soon as we get more information, we will notify the public. In any case, those people went there privately and have no relations with the Serbian or RS authorities," Jeremic explained. Dodik added that it was "certain that the captives were not sent there by or in any way acted on behalf of the Serbian or RS authorities". Scenes from Tripoli this Thursday (Tanjug)
