The main bridge in Kosovska Mitrovica was partially opened for traffic shortly before 05:00 CET on Tuesday. The bridge over the Ibar River separates the mostly Serb northern from the ethnic Albanian southern part of the divided town. According to Tanjug's correspondent, KFOR combat vehicles are still on the bridge, but one lane is open for traffic. The Kosovo police service patrol is also present on the bridge, as well as several EULEX vehicles. EULEX special units have been deployed since Monday night in the vicinity of the Kosovska Mitrovica District Court and the police station in the northern part of the city. The situation is described as "peaceful". The bridge was closed when the Kosovo Albanian authorities in Pristina sent members of the Kosovo police, KPS, to the north. They reached the Brnjak administrative crossing and attempted to do the same with at Jarinje. This provoked a reaction of the Serb population, who organized a protest near Brnjak and blocked the main road from Kosovska Mitrovica to Raska on two locations, making it impossible for the KPS members to reach Jarinje.
