The ruling Democratic Party has reacted to opposition SNS leader Tomislav Nikolic's statement that a date for elections will be set "regardless of the law". The statement "contains the threat of violating the legal system", said the Democrats (DS). Regular elections are scheduled to take place in the spring of 2012. The Democrats warned in their statement issued in Belgrade that the law determined "who and in what manner called elections". The party further said that "taking over the power in an unlawful manner is incompatible with the idea of democracy, and especially with advocating a European society". "To be a pro-European party means to obey the law, the parliamentary majority and the country's interests," according to the Democrats. The party, headed by the country's president, Boris Tadic, further said that "despite declarative statements in favor of peaceful and democratic protests", SNS leaders Tomislav Nikolic and Aleksandar Vucic "send out messages with elements of veiled or direct violence on a daily basis".
