Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) and Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) closer contacts are a “never-ending melodrama,” says Democratic Party (DS) deputy leader. “Every day, (SNS leader Tomislav) Nikolic has to give up on one of his declared objectives to make (DSS leader Vojislav) Kostunica willing to join him, only to see their love ending in war and strife as early as next week,” DS Deputy Leader Jelena Trivan told Belgrade-based daily Vecernje novosti. SNS, DSS cooperation “never-ending melodrama” Answering a question whether a recent statement made by DS leader Boris Tadic that the DS would be ready to enter even broader coalitions in order to achieve the European goal was related to the SNS, Trivan said that forming any new coalitions had never been discussed by the party leadership. "We are committed to communication and coalitions with our traditional partners,” she added. Trivan pointed out that the election issue was a ploy by the opposition to “divert public attention” from seeing they lacked any platform to address important life issues, as well as to undermine the government's work and achievements. “It is even more futile to launch such an issue at the moment when the country is struggling to carry out essential reforms in order to obtain the EU candidate status,”she underlined.
