Kosovo president elected "unconstitutionally"

The Constitutional Court of Kosovo announced on Monday that the last election of the president was unconstitutional, said reports. The court thereby accepted the arguments of the Democratic League of Kosovo and the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo. A series of irregularities were reported during the presidential election, one of them being that current President Behgjet Isa Pacolli was elected according to the regulations of the UN Mission in Kosovo. Now analysts in Pristina are saying that Paccoli is "no longer the president of Kosovo", and that the president of the assembly in Pristina will temporarily take over. They also believe that the only way out of the latest crisis is for the ruling coalition to propose a new candidate, "acceptable to the opposition". Should they continue to insist on Pacolli, say analysts, it is likely that Kosovo will face new early elections.
