The parliament committee for Kosovo has called on Serbs in the province on Monday not to take part in the census of population unless it is organized by the UN. During a meeting of the committee in Belgrade on Monday, Minister for Kosovo and Metohija Goran Bogdanovic pointed out that the stand of the Serbian government clearly states that only the UN can carry out a census in the province, while Kosovo institutions are not authorized to do so. Committee tells Serbs to boycott Kosovo census Bogdanovic pointed out that the government finds it unacceptable for the UN to organize the census in northern Kosovo only and the Kosovo institutions to be in charge of conducting it in other parts of the province. He warned that ethnic Albanians in Kosovo and Metohija are preparing "a census theft" in order to make the public believe that fewer Serbs live in the province than is the case, and added that he obtained this information in the talks with representatives of the international community. The minister specified that 250,000 Serbs were displaced from Kosovo and Metohija and posed the question of how Serbs could report their property in the municipalities they were expelled from. He also said that he is aware that a part of Serbs will take part in the census and expressed belief that a majority of Serbs in Kosovo will not participate. The committee meets (Beta)
