Rasim Ljajic has commented on "information that the UN knew about human organ trafficking in Kosovo but turned a blind eye to the crime". Serbia's labor minister said this happened "for the sake of stability", and that the information that the atrocities were ignored was "nothing new". "UN was aware of organ trafficking" "The UN knew [about it], representatives of every major international institution in Kosovo knew, we know that UNMIK fundamentally had authority in Kosovo in the period when the organ trafficking took place, and that top officials had reports," Ljajic told reporters after the Social and Economic Council met in Belgrade on Thursday. "At that time and for a number of years thereafter, the international community's policy was stability above justice. For the sake of stability, they shut both eyes," Ljajic added. Ljajic said that Serbia was demanding that the entire procedure be delegated to the justice authorities and that the whole truth of what had happened there was in the open. He said that it was not in Serbia's interest for the issue to be politicized, or for it to become an obstacle to the start of dialog between Belgrade and Pristina. Rasim Ljajic (Beta, file)
