Representatives of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) and the New Kosovo Alliance (AKR) have not reached an agreement on the new coalition. The two parties announced yesterday that they would form the new Kosovo government together with minority parties. PDK, AKR fail to reach agreement The agreement has not been reached yet because Hashim Thaci’s PDK did not offer the position of Kosovo president to AKR leader Behgjet Pacolli, who demanded to be the president. The DPK has offered Pacolli the position of the Kosovo assembly speaker, deputy prime minister and four ministries. The decision was made by the PDK leadership that was divided on the issue. There are differences between Thaci, who enjoys support of the majority, and his deputy Fatmir Limaj. Limaj and seven or eight other MPs advocated that the position of the president should go to Jakup Krasniqi. Immediately after PDK leadership sent an official offer to the AKR, Thaci and his closest associates Hajredin Kuci and Limaj had a meeting with Pacolli, Ferid Agani and Agim Ceku. A PDK official, who wanted to remain anonymous, told Pristina-based Albanian language daily that the agreement had not been reached because the offer did not include the position of president for the AKR. “The offer did not include the position of president (of Kosovo) and that’s why the agreement was not reached,” he was quoted as saying. The DPK has announced that they also invited minority parties into the coalition but that they did not invite other Kosovo Albanian parties due to their requests. According to Thaci’s party, the future coalition will have support of 65 out of 120 MPs in the Kosovo assembly. The PDK has 34 seats, AKR has eight, while ethnic minorities have 22 seats. Democratic Alliance of Kosovo (LDK) MP Uke Rugova will also support the coalition.
