Economy Minister Mladjan Dinkic says he will ask the PM to "severely penalize" Finance Ministry State Secretary Slobodan Ilic. Dinkic believes that this should come because of Ilic's recent statements regarding Dinkic's ministry's decision to grant higher subsidies to Slovenia's Gorenje company if it chose to build its plant in Zajecar, eastern Serbia, rather than as originally planned in Valjevo, western Serbia. Minister wants state secretary punished Dinkic stated at a press briefing that Ilic's remarks were "arbitrary", as the decision was made "based on a government regulation, which doubles subsidies for underdeveloped areas compared to other regions". On January 27, Dinkic signed an agreement with Gorenje on the construction of a new factory in Zajecar, which will employ 300 people and an initial investment of about EUR 2.9mn, it was said. "Taking into account a very difficult economic and social situation in that part of Serbia, the Serbian Ministry of Economy supported the investment with EUR 10,000 for each new employee, that is with a total of EUR 3mn," Dinkic previously explained. But Ilic accused Dinkic of "wooing away" existing foreign investors "due to his inability to attract new ones" and of purposfully transferring foreign investments to those towns where mayors come from his political party. Beside holding the economy and regional development portfolios in the government, Dinkic is also at the helm of G17 Plus and the United Regions of Serbia parties. Mladjan Dinkic (Beta, file)
